For “Ancient Gear Castle”, “Set” means to Set from the hand. It does not include using “Book of Moon” or “Guardian Sphinx” to flip a monster face-down, or Special Summoning a monster in face-down Defense Position with “Cyber Jar” or “The Shallow Grave”.

This card does not gain counters when a monster is Set by a card effect (by "Book of Moon").
This card does not gain counters when a monster is Special Summoned face-down (by "The Shallow Grave").
The (3) Continuous-like Effect does not start a Chain.
While Geartown is active, you can Tribute Ancient Gear Castle with 1 Counter to Tribute Summon Ancient Gear Golem.
This is not an extra Normal Summon, it only substitutes the monster(s) to be Tributed.
This effect does not apply for a Tribute Set.
